28th April 2015 - Juvenile Season - 2014 / 2015

Under 13 Boys

The under 13 boys team consisting of Ruairi Buchannan, Matthew Cully, Tommy Buchannan and Scott Armstrong ended the season as county champions after a hard fought but deserved victory over Kildalkey. Having one the first two singles, the key game involved Tommy Buchannan at 3" singles. Despite an early injury and a nine point deficit, he battled back, turned the game around and gained a tight 30-28 victory. The team deserved their title as they had gone through the whole season unbeaten after the following results.

  • v. Kildalkey: home — won 5 – 1, away – drew 3 - 3
  • v. Longwood: home – won 5 - 1, away - won 4 - 2
  • v. Killyon: home – won 5 – 1 , away – won 5 - 1

Under 13 Mixed

The under 13 mixed team of Ruairi Buchannan, Matthew Cully, Megan Kinsella and Mia McNally finished the season as runners up to Stamullen. Having had two very tight games with Stamullen earlier in the season which ended with two 2 - 2 draws, the final failed to go their way and they suffered a 4 - 0 loss.

Under 13 Girls

The girls under 13 team consisted of Megan Kinsella, Mia McNally, Emma Byrne, Abbie Reid and Roisin Tobin. The team failed to make the final but given three of them were in their first year playing, they acquitted themselves very well. After losses home and away to both Kildalkey and Stamullen, they recorded a couple of 4 - 2 victories home and away to Trim.

County Level

Congrats to Matthew Cully, Megan Kinsella, Mia McNally and Abbie Reid who represented Meath under 13s at the Leinster Inter County Chanmpionships in Baldoyle on 8th March last.

In additon Ruairi Buchannan together with Matthew, Megan & Mia acquitted themselves really well at Yonex B tournaments in Whitehall Road, Terenure in both November 14 and February 15. They have one final tournament before the season closes at the Battle of the Boyne Tournament in Drogheda from June 8th to 20th.

It is hoped that these players together with a significant number of under 11s which started playing this year will provide a new batch of star players for the club.

Under 11 Update

The under 11 team which had come through their group so impressively during the league season took part in the league play off's in Kildalkey on Saturday, 8th March. They played the home team in the semi final. Despite missing Mia Mc Nally, the team including impressive substitute, Con Smith, played well and won all four singles matches to record a victory without needing to go to the two doubles matches.

Later in the day they lined up against Stamullen in the final. Matthew Cully played in the top singles and came out on top, 21 — 19 in a very tight match against an equally impressive opponent. Megan Kinsella and Tommy Buchannan played 2nd and 3rd singles respectively and despite good performances, both came up against stronger opponents who came out on top with 21 — 11 score lines. The final singles was played by Con Smith and he followed up his earlier win with another strong performance. Having led most for most of the match, he eventually lost 21 — 19. This left the team 3 — 1 down after the singles and facing an uphill struggle. Matthew Cully and Tommy Buchannan played first doubles and while playing well came out with a 21 — 13 loss which gave overall victory to Stamullen.

While they failed at the very last hurdle, this young squad of players gave good performances throughout the year and took some big steps forward in their development. It is now hoped they gain good results in the Meath Juvenile Championships which take place later this month.

Juvenile Season - 2012 / 2013

We have just completed a successful juvenile season at Claremont Stadium. A new batch of underage players joined this season which boosted numbers. The club fielded an Under 11 mixed team and both an Under 13 boys and Under 13 mixed team in the county leagues.

The Under 13 boys team was Stephen Donnelly , Stephen Dagger , Conor Gunn and Tadhg Mollahan Maguire. The Under 13 mixed team comprised of Stephen Donnelly, Stephen Dagger, Katie Buchannan , Brianan Breenan Wilde and Jayde Jackson. Both teams came up against strong opposition but the experience will stand them in good stead for future years.

The Under 11 team was Matthew Cully , Scott O’Sullivan , Ruairi Buchannan , Megan Kinsella and Mia Mc Nally. They performed admirably during the year recording some great wins but were beaten by a strong Stamullen team who went on to win not only the group but also the overall league.

The underage Meath Championships took place over the weekend of 23rd and 24th of March in Trim GAA hall and their were some great individual performances. Ruairi Buchannan reached the semi final of the Under 11 boys singles and was beaten by the eventual winner. Along with Matthew Cully they also made the boys doubles semi finals.

The best performance in the individual championships came from Brian Keville in the Under 17 boys singles. Brian came through a few tough rounds before reaching the final where he was beaten by Stephen Murray from Kildalkey. Both Daniel Byrne and Brian, transition year students in St Pats, have played in the senior club this year and their standard has increased significantly.
